About Me: A Golfer’s Quiet Journey from High School to Now

Hello there, curious readers. I’m Sun and if you’re expecting an adrenaline-pumping tale, you might want to lower those expectations. I am just an overly ambitious amateur golfer who freaks about golf in every aspect.

Where It All Started

Back in high school, I was fortunate enough to be on the school golf team. Early mornings, damp grass, and a bunch of teenagers trying to look like they knew what they were doing. I was one of them, navigating the world of swings, putts, and trying not to embarrass myself. It wasn’t glamorous, just a start.

After jumping from a Freshman team to Varsity, I had the chance to play with Rickie Fowler, current PGA Tour Professional, who already had the skills out of my league in my Sophomore year. I watched him own our league while I perfected clapping skills for him. The bar was raised high, so I soon decided not to pursue a career as a professional golf player.

20+ Years as an Amateur Golfer

Fast forward a couple of decades, and here I am – an amateur golfer who’s been at it for over 20 years. No grand trophies, no shining moments in the limelight. It’s about routine, waking early in the morning, looking at the green views, chatting with friends, and the quiet pleasure of hitting a ball across the course.

Golf, for a weekend golfer, is more of a habit than an event. Now, I gained the insights to enjoy the moment rather than compete.

3 to 5 Handicap Golfer

Have you ever tried balancing on a tightrope? That’s what keeping a 3 to 5 handicap feels like. It’s that sweet spot where challenge meets skill. Every round is a balance between precision and power, where every stroke counts.

It’s not about perfection; it’s about finding the groove and enjoying the rhythm. I can’t lie, sometimes I shoot 10 over par, and very occasionally, I shoot -1 or -2; like once a year.

A Golf YouTuber

When the pandemic hit in 2020, I wasn’t able to play golf for almost 2 months. I had to find a way to keep my hobby, so I went to my friend’s golf club fitting shop. For the next two months, I drove a 30-mile round trip almost every day to enjoy the solitude with the launch monitor just to myself.

Though I was taking advantage of the pandemic situation, my friend’s business wasn’t doing so well. I offered him to start a YouTube channel not to change the world but to help out a friend’s golf pro shop. And ever since, it’s become my side hustle.

No flashy content, just practical tips, and basic product reviews. The virtual clubhouse became a place where enthusiasts quietly exchanged notes. It’s done in my native language, Korean, but if you want to check it out, here is the link: Yes Golf.

Starting a Blog Journey

And now, here we are, at the beginning of a blog in 2024. Why? Because the golfing world is more than just a game; it’s a quiet realm of experiences and, yes, gears.

Even with 20 years of golf life, I found out there is vast information that I was not aware of. I just want to share my 4 years of learned knowledge about products and technology involved around golf clubs and equipment doing a YouTube channel with my club fitter friend.

This blog isn’t a spectacle; it’s a space to share tested knowledge and products straightforwardly.

2. Best Reviews: I will walk through the best equipment, products, or services for each level of golfers, including myself.

3. Golf Course Reviews: Join me behind the scenes of my golf adventures, from muni course to Top 100 golf courses. I’m excited about this, hope you are as well.

4. Golf-related News: Any news that shocks the golf world such as Tiger Woods ending contract with Nike, and more!

Conclusion

So, here’s the deal – this blog isn’t a rollercoaster; it’s more like a steady ride. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just someone mildly interested, there’s a spot for you here.

Let’s explore the golfing world in a low-key way, one blog post at a time. Swing by if you want, and until then, may your drives be reasonable, and your putts be somewhere close to the hole.
